Sony Cybershot DSCW Review and Faetures

Designed to make photo-viewing crystal clear, Sony announced the DSC W90 digital camera featuring a high-definition component output. This new Cyber-shot W-series camera offers direct connection to an HDTV, which is ideal for integrating full 1080 HD photo-viewing into a home theater. The Cybershot DSC-W90 is a 8-megapixel digital camera, and features a Carl Zeiss optical zoom lens; traditional, eye-level viewfinder; and a large, 2.5-inch LCD screen wrapped in a sleek metal body. The Sony Cybershot DSC-W90 camera will be available in March for about $300 in black and silver.

Options will include batteries, travel chargers, lenses, filters, sports packs and cases. Pre-orders begin on Feb. 28. The Optical view finder helped us get the right composition thus upping the not-so-visible TFT display under sunlight. Getting the right focus in macro mode was also not a problem. Its lens could get as close as 2 inches.

In low lights, though noise was low, there was some loss of detail. We think this is Sony's idea of evening up things; while it keeps minimum noise, images sacrifice their details. The Flash lights up subjects up to a distance of 6 feet but not beyond. The high ISO 3200 settings captured images with enormous noise, but keeping it below 800 gives the best result.

The red-eye reduction mode managed its task pretty well. We suggest using this mode in a situation when plenty of flash usage is required. Burst mode at high frame rate works great while shooting moving subjects.

The absence of manual controls is compensated by the program mode which offers enough settings to tweak the camera for casual shooters. 8.1-megapixel Super HAD CCD With more megapixels than most digital cameras, the DSC-W90 captures greater image definition so you can make big prints and tight crops without losing detail. The advanced Sony Super HAD (Hole Accumulated Diode) CCD design allows more light to pass to each pixel, increasing sensitivity and reducing noise. Carl Zeiss 3x optical zoom lens A top-quality Carl Zeiss 3x optical zoom lens design helps the DSC-W90 bring distant subjects closer and lets you frame shots quickly for better composition -- a real advantage for family sports, outdoor fun, and travel photos.

Face detection By automatically controlling focus, exposure, color and flash, this new Sony feature reveals faces in shadow, makes skin tones look more natural and eliminates harsh facial glare -- to help bring out every expression on every face in every shot, so you'll capture the personalities and emotions that make memories come alive. The Sony Double Anti-Blur Solution With Super SteadyShot optical image stabilization and high sensitivity (ISO 3200), the DSC-W90 compensates for shaky hands, minimizes blur, brightens images and allows flash-free shooting to preserve the mood -- with Sony Clear RAW Noise Reduction to take care of the picture noise that can ruin low-light shots. HD output Thanks to Sony, your photo album can go high-def -- with direct HD output to compatible HDTV screens, so you can view DSC-W90 still photos in spectacular high-definition clarity and detail.

Your life never looked so exciting! Note: HD output requires an optional Sony HD connector cable; HDTV sold separately HD slide show with music It's the high-definition viewing experience that makes photos come alive on compatible HDTV screens, accompanied by your choice of visual effects and any of four preset musical selections stored in memory or your favorite MP3 tunes downloaded from PC to your camera for use as background music.
